A man who helped a drink-driver flee to India after killing a student has apologised to the man's family.Puneet Puneet remains at large after fleeing Australia in June 2009 while awaiting a pre-sentence hearing over the death of Gold Coast student Dean Hofstee in Melbourne in October 2008.After pleading guilty to culpable driving, Puneet left Australia on the passport of his friend Sukhcharanjit "Sam" Singh.Singh has pleaded guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice. Yesterday, at a pre-sentence hearing in the Victorian County Court, Singh, 22, apologised to Mr Hofstee's family through his barrister, Antony Trood. Mr Hofstee's father and brother were in court.He will be sentenced on March 24.
